My skill-Mira

The skills I want to put forth for service learning this time round is my performing arts because The arts can teach people a lot more than just dance steps and notes.  It can build confidence of yourself and understand who you are. But also studies show that kids in the arts do better in school. It is also shown that singing can help you learn a foreign language and that learning an instrument and you use your whole cerebral cortex. Also because I love the arts I can put a lot of passion in what I can do.

Me

This is my introduction from the meeting and what I see myself as. I am Mira Sachdeva  and I am 13 years old. I was born in the U.S and my hobbies include dance, music, and acting. I love service and want to contribute to flowering tree. The first time I went on a service trip is when my brother did his eighth grade service project. I had been shy because I was not the one doing service and I hid behind my mother. When I had started going to U.W.C, service was a requirement.  So I signed myself up for a few and it was me. It was probably the most fun I had in a lunchtime. I also love nature.

The skill I want to teach the kids in India is sports skill. Sports will offer them an opportunity to recreate and socialize with other kids in the area, as well as allowing them to have some fun. For all kids, having fun is an important part of life. I understand the importance of education and learning, but every once in a while, kids just have to have some fun. Group sports such as cricket and soccer also allow the kids to make friends which they can do other things with too. This helps kids stay happy and healthy.

Me

Honestly, I don't remember how I introduced myself that day. All I remember is that I represented myself with the colour green. However, I would have probably done it like this;

Hi, my name is Rohan. I am in 7th grade at SAS and I turn twelve this year. I joined Flowering Tree's Service Project because I think helping the needy is extremely important and the only way to do so is to do it yourself. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

I wanted to introduce myself with the colour green. This colour represents me because I love nature. I love visiting zoos, aquariums and parks wherever I go. I am fascinated by what grows in different climates around the globe. Olive-green is also the colour of peace, something I believe is essential for the smooth function of anything and everything.

Skill (By: Riya)

Writing Poetry, Writing Music:
I love writing poetry and writing songs  because it lets me express my self in a beautiful language way. It lets me express all my types of emotion, by using the tone in my voice or the length/ font in the writing. Music is an language you use if you don't know how to express your emotions with words but with melodies. Music and poetry will advantage the villagers because instead of men rapping women because they want to feel respected or important they can write songs instead, or kids can start singing instead of abusing themselves. Music is a emotion not a melody- Riya Devgan
